Summer Intensive

Hey every one,I've been crazy busy with nutcracker:)
Summer feels like a million years away, but it's a good idea to start thinking about it now. As we get older,it will be better and better for us to go to summer intensives at different studios. For example,my family goes to Chicago every summer for their job,so we are looking into summer intensives there, which has been really cool. Look into it now and start planing now, cause most auditions are really soon.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!
It's 6 and pitch black......
During rehearsal this weekend,be sure to do a lot of moving around. Thanksgiving is a really bad day for a dancer.........
Have fun!!!!
Ummm what else??....
Listening to really good music and helping mom make dinner. Check out Rossini and Bitz(tink carme, the name isn't spelled right) on pandora or you-tube. As always, with you-tube,be carful. But these guys are good. Francesca Battistellii too.

Interclass Compation

Just a warning:
I've noticed that its kinda awkward during class, but not outside. Please be sure not to try and out do your friends and strain your friendship. Friends are more important winning. If someones having a bad day and the teachers getting on them and loving on you, slip up,make a mistake. Dance is a stubtle and biased thing. We need to come out at the top.HOWEVER still try and do your best. And if somethings really hard and painful,I found NOT half doing it and doing full out and well is actually easier. Half doing drains your energy more. coughlasariccough.

Class is canceled!!!!

Class is canceled!!! Or you are just skipping. But if you have a free evening in which you would other wise be spending in a hot, stuffy classroom, here is what I would and have done:
1) take a nice, long hot shower, and maybe a nice hot soak in the tub after. Take your time drying off
2) throw fashion to the winds and where the cumfiest, warmest pjs you have. This must include long sleeves, socks and slippers. Long everything.
3) make your self a cup of tea
4) curl up in a comfy chair with a warm blanket and a good book

Books good for this occasion:
The Penderiwhicks by j.birdsall. And the penderwhicks on gardam street
All of a kind family
Second fiddle
Cinderella cleaners(a series) for get the first on,comment with it and I'll etit it in
Petal Pushers(a series) starts with too many Blooms
Any other book that's not to intence. Gently and calm and funny.

5) listen to quiet music
6) call a friend(other wise,try to avoid screens)
7) GO TO BED EARLY

Before Class Warm-up

Warming up before class is the best way to have a good class,as you are already lose and relacsted and can focous on the exersise, reather then on stretching and then can focous on technicality. this is my(ideal)warm-up:
1)Leg swings- if you have time,do 4 levels: 25,45,90,and 180 degrees(forward and back/slide to side)
2)Calf stretches-normal for 16,both legs bent for 16;repeat and then on other leg
3)Thie stretch-don't do for to long,as your knee is not in the healthiest position
4)Phsoas-hips tucked for16,lunging for 16,thinker twist for 16. Both legs
5)Hip opener-sitting agenst the wall,one leg out,other crossed over,bend bottom leg up.For 30 sec or more,both sides
6)Side winder-on your back, feet on the ground, like in chrunches. Keeping upper body still, take 2 steps to one side, lift hips up to mach.Do 3 times,or as much as is nessary to get a good, gentle side stretch.it wont be too big,and be carful you dont get to twisted up. To get back,do the same. Do to the other side.
7)Stradle splits- lie on you back, right agents the wall.Open your legs to second and sit there for as long as either you can stand or till class starts.

Alter this to how much time you have. If you have 15 min and no friends, take your time and langthen it out. 10 min and a crowd if fans...do only the stuff you can. I find I never have to worry about my feet, but if you need feet work, don't do Stradle splits or Side winder. This is what I TRY to do.(emphases on TRY)

Nutcracker

Nutcracker is just around the corner!!!!! And it's a nessisatry to remain all in one piece. During rehearsal, keep warm-ups on as long as possible. And injuries should be reported and attended to ASAP. don't just think it will go away. I did that and I'm off jumping for a week. Here is my warm-up how to:
1) Warm-up- during warm-up,go for sweat shirt, long sleeves and pants. Get rid of the sweat shirt 1/2 way throughout
2) Beging of rehearsal- keep the long sleeves and pants on till you have gone at least one time. Keep your shirt near you in longer rehearsals.
3) For shorter rehearsls- keep pants on till you are really sweaty and then put them on when your turn is over
4) longer- everything on as long as possible!!!!
5) company rehearsal and rehearsals wither Charles- same as 4 but take everything off just before you go on.

And people, check out the bloggs on the list, there pretty cool,by dance friends!!!

Knees

For those of us who are no stranger to knee ingeries, this is no big surprise, but if you knees suddenly turn on you and heart  like any thing, read on!

For the rest of class:
Take it easy on turn out,and be gentle with jumps, grand plea, any thing that hearts, don't do it. If you don't have a knee brace, get one. This is a neccesarry.  And if you borrow someone else's,please,PLEASE,give it back.

After:
Knee exersise: lie on you side, with bottom leg bent up,top leg down and slightly back.DO NOT BEND. Life your leg up about 10 inches, then lower it SLOWLY. do theis at least 20 times,on both legs.
Then: lie on your side with your top leg bent up by your hip, bottom leg down and slightly back. Lift your leg up 10 inches and lower down SLOWLY. Do this at least 20 time, both legs.

Before you go to bed,ice it for 15,with your leg above heart level.

First Post

This post is the first of this blog!!!
As a teen dancer,I dance for at least 6 days a week.Ballet, point, jazz, characture, modern, exersise class and an assisting teacher class. Something I found really helps if you have a habit of slightly arching your back trying to "lift up":think of your stomach scooped and your sholder blades seperating. Just don't do it to the extreme of hunching up,its a subtle and delecate process. This is thanks to Ms Jessica!
